Identifying Transiting Exoplanets around White Dwarfs with TESS and SPECULOOS
About Me
-
I am currently a student at ISAE-SUPAERO and conducting research in the EAPS department at MIT, focusing on the fascinating field of exoplanets. My work primarily involves analyzing data from the TESS and SPECULOOS telescopes. I’m excited to be part of this community, to keep learning, and to grow together through mutual support!

To date, only one exoplanet has been confirmed around a white dwarf. This study launches a new search effort using the SPECULOOS network, which offers significantly better angular resolution than previous TESS observations, making it a highly promising endeavor.
The project develops a method to pre-select white dwarf (WD) candidates most likely to yield transit detections, based on a statistical analysis of their local stellar environment. By combining data from Gaia DR3, the TESS Input Catalog (TIC), and the J/MNRAS/508/3877 WD catalog, the study measures angular distances to nearby brighter stars to evaluate the risk of photometric contamination. The aim is to identify the most isolated and photometrically clean WDs, optimizing the chances of successful detection with TESS and enabling targeted follow-up with SPECULOOS. -

I'm currently eager to discover how this powerful and fascinating tool—AI—can support and enrich my research work. I’ll complete this section with more detail in the future as my understanding grows. I'm open to any exchange on the topic, and if I can help in any way, it would be with great pleasure.

Each spectral type of star requires a tailored analysis of its light curves, particularly in terms of transit duration and the depth of flux attenuation during a potential transit event. A promising avenue of research would be to develop a transit detection method specifically adapted to the properties of the host star.
